About

With the ageing European Society, there is an increasing demand for Geriatric Emergency Medicine. This website is an initiative of the European Geriatric Medicine Society (EuGMS) and the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EUSEM). Together, they initiated the European Task Force on Geriatric Emergency Medicine: a formal collaboration between the societies since 2013.

Our mission is to develop sustainable clinically and cost-effective patient-centred health care systems that improve relevant outcomes for older patients in EDs across Europe.

A mission statement has been published in European Journal of Emergency Medicine: April 2019 – Volume 26 – Issue 2 – p 75-76.

The Taskforce has grown significantly since its formation and has over 150 registered members receiving our mailing list. The 2023 Frailty in European Emergency Departments (FEED) study recruited older patients across 68 emergency departments in 16 countries. Our paramedic curriculum project engaged 56 members from 27 countries in a three-year Delphi process. Our e-learning programme on Palliative Care in the Emergency Department has attracted over 1,300 registrants worldwide.
